Rep. Paul Ryan’s support for embattled House Republican Bob Dold is no surprise

Deerfield, IL – Tonight, Republican Congressman Paul Ryan will come to Chicago to support and raise money for his colleague Bob Dold.  Ryan put Dold on his list of strong conservatives who share "a vision of common sense fiscal policies,” and Dold has voted for each and every one of Ryan’s dangerous budget proposals from 2011-2012 and again in 2015.  The Ryan budgets aim to end Medicare as we know it, repeal the Affordable Care Act, and drastically cut student loans, among other things.

“Paul Ryan’s strong support for Bob Dold is really no surprise,” said Democrat Brad Schneider.  “Congressman Dold has repeatedly and consistently voted for the dangerous Ryan budgets that hurt seniors, students, and individuals and families who rely on Obamacare.”

In total, Republican Bob Dold has voted more than 30 times to get rid of the health care law that has been approved by Congress, American voters and the Supreme Court.  The Ryan budgets have continually set repealing Obamacare as one of their main goals.  The Ryan budget also cuts funding for Pell Grants and Stafford Loans, as well as replacing the guaranteed benefit of Medicare with a voucher system.

“Illinoisans deserves a Congressman who will stand up for their values and fight to protect seniors, expand access to health care, and equip the next generation with quality, affordable education,” continued Schneider.  “But time and again, Congressman Dold supports extreme Republican budgets over the best interests of our district.”
