Schneider Campaign Donates to Food Banks Before SNAP Funds Lapse
As families across the nation face a Republican created hunger crisis, Rep. Brad Schneider (IL-10) announced on Thursday that he is proud to make a donation from his reelection campaign account to 27 local food banks, two diaper banks, and two immigrant assistance organizations in the district. These donations come as an anticipated lapse in SNAP payments begins on November 1st, caused by the refusal of the Trump Administration to tap a $5 billion contingency fund that is available to keep food benefits flowing to people in need.
“Nearly 2 million Illinoisans will be at risk of going hungry starting on November 1 because of the Trump Administration’s and Republicans’ unwillingness to both release emergency SNAP funds and work with Congressional Democrats to end the government shutdown,” said Rep. Schneider. “Republican leadership in Washington has already cut almost $200 billion from food assistance programs earlier this year, in addition to their $1 trillion cut to Medicaid that will also directly impact many families that rely on SNAP. With costs rising due to Trump’s tariff taxes and families struggling to make ends meet, it’s crucial for those who can to pitch in and support hungry families, especially with Thanksgiving around the corner. I’m proud to support our local food pantries with a donation that will help them keep families fed this holiday season.”
